 I was having a conversation with a buddy today who, even though really liberal on most problems, is fairly middle of the road in regards to weapon control. He is not against hidden take, but does prefer much more background checks - particularly on revenue from a private individual to personal individual.

He is a bit astonished that I am against this. "Why?", he asked.

First, i'd like to preface my reason with only a little information about me. I am not an anarchist. I am not really a doomsday prepper. I do not feel we are due for a innovation, certainly not within my lifetime. I like having SOME government (don't inform my anti-statist buddies though). Most of these values being therefore, I must acknowledge that I really do anxiety for the generations which come after my demise (I do wish to have at least still another 40 decades, which may get me in to my 80s).

So back to my friend. Why do I differ with him? Properly, it is simple. Background checks on every sale, specifically personal individual to personal individual, would result in a nationwide weapon registry. I am greatly against having one of these.

My friend countered, really proudly I might add, that individuals must register our cars. Why don't you our weapons? This is simple. Nowhere in the constitution does it assure the right to help keep and own cars. We all caved on the licensing of cars and owners about a century ago.

Our founding fathers specifically set vocabulary in the constitution allowing us to help keep and tolerate arms. There are various interpretations about what they designed, but I think at least portion of their reason was therefore that individuals could protect ourselves from a tyrannical government or those who wish to do us harm.

Do I think which our government is tyrannical? Properly, not exactly yet. We are however the most free nation on earth. I really do in contrast to to journey our state is on, but I do not experience it is to late to correct the ship.

Having a national weapon registry would result in pushed weapon buy-backs or even confiscation throughout some future situation (either natural or man-made). Having our talents to guard ourselves from thieves and/or government listed in a database would be sharing information that's much too personal.

The trail to nightmare is smooth with excellent intentions. Government is good at creating us believe that being better (their definition) is really worth quitting several rights. Requiring people every where to join up their personal, constitutionally secured weapons is a bad idea.

I can foresee that weapons would actually get associated with addresses wherever their owners no longer live. Imagine if you transferred into a house wherever the previous occupants had numerous weapons documented and law enforcement got searching for these people? We all know that police, a lot of them being great people, do produce problems when their adrenaline levels are too high. Would you would like your home finding shot up because the previous people had weapons listed in the registry?

I believe that it is nothing of the government's business if I own a rifle (or guns). Yes, I want to do the same background check always as someone else when I buy a new gun. Starting a national weapon registry may be the first step to taking weapons from people the government does not want obtaining guns. Currently this type of person felons and those with intellectual problems. Who may these future gunless people be? Individuals of unique political events? Individuals of particular financial courses? Individuals of particular religions? It has all occurred all through earth history. We imagine to function as enlightened Americans but we have factions looking to get all our freedoms and give all the energy to the government exactly like dictators of past and provide we have all heard of.

How can this occur? We have to consider it from two avenues. First the steady loss in weapon rights for anyone through new "minor" limited weapon laws. Next, the complete loss in weapon rights for certain sets of people the government has targeted. Envision a candle burning at both ends.
